Description
Description
Through the 'Eternal' collection, the British artist Damien Hirst presents a series of motifs that can be read as emblematic of the cycle of life, rendered eternal in Lalique
crystal.
The butterfly has been used in multiple ways throughout the artist’s career: as the medium by which to create the intricate geometries of his Kaleidoscope paintings, interspersed upon canvases of monochromatic colour (as seen in the Butterfly Colour Paintings), and even as live creatures within his seminal exhibition In and Out of Love (1991).
With Eternal Hope, the artist captures an image of a butterfly in crystal, for eternity.
The image is hot-pressed into the centre of the Lalique crystal panel, ensuring the piece captures the light, replicating the effect of stained-glass windows.
The panel can be displayed in a number of ways; for example, mounted on an easel, framed and hung across a wall partition, or inset into a wall.
